Roman Holiday
Most of us artists put ourselves through the nail biter of applying to national juried shows. We submit what we deem our best work, pay a pretty penny for these submissions, and then...... the waiting begins.
Sometimes we don't get in, which is ok, because there are soooooooo many great artists out there. I have been a submissions juror for national shows, and I know how hard it is to pick 150 or so out of 1600 paintings. So no hard feelings when I don't get in, just the 30 seconds of disappointment which I will allow myself. But sometimes you do get lucky: This time I got the wonderful message letting me know that "Roman Holiday" got selected for the 25th Annual National Exhibition of American Impressionist Society.
Rome is my favorite city, I find it simply magical. I have done a lot of sightseeing there in the past, so now when I visit, I just drift along, sit in cafés with a cappuccino or an Aperol Spritz, and watch the world walk by, taking it all in. Spending time mentally in Rome when I painted "Roman Holiday" put me right back into that tranquil, dreamy mood, and I hope that shows through in this 20 x 24" oil painting.
If you are in the Rockport, MA, area between September 27th and October 26th, come and stop by the show at the Rockport Art Association and Museum and immerse yourself for a bit in your own Roman Holiday!
